Squadron Supreme: what a bunch of assh*les. We could argue ad nauseam whether or not Namor deserved it, but don't you think destroying an entire civilization purely out of spite places one firmly in the "utter bastards" category? These are the "heroes" we're supposed to sympathize with?

I think that’s a valid opinion to hold, surely.

I don’t know that I can agree that was was done by the Squadron was done out of spite.

Rather, I think that the Squadron believed that, based upon their past actions, Namor and Atlantis represented an aggressor nation that presented a clear and present danger to the safety of the world, and so moved to neutralize that danger.

You may well not agree with the action that they took, and that’s really a part of the point of the series: where is the line drawn? The characters will look for an answer and figure out what makes sense to them, and so will the readers.

I’m pretty sure the line should be drawn way before “genocide and systematic destruction of an entire civilization.” But that’s just me. :/
